four seasons quilt and tutorial on binding

I figured I’d show how I finish off binding on my quilts 🙂

I make 2 1/2″ strips and sew about 3/8″ from the edge- it’s the center stitch setting on my sewing machine and the edge of the foot (so about 1/3 of the folded width)

I start about 5″ or so from the beginning and stop about the same before the end of the beginning strip as shown.

I then lay down the binding and open it up where it overlaps

with a marker/pencil/ fixion I mark a line at the point where they line up

I then cut off maybe 5/8″ from that line ( I eyeball it and you’ll get the hang of it after while)

I pin and overlap the seam allowance tabs

then sew down, the stitch line should be half way between the edge and the sewn line

I finger pressed the seam open and fold it like the rest of the biding

and sew it on, it should match perfectly

here’s my jar for left over binding strips!

and my wire shelf with completed quilts on the top left, a customer quilt that’s done, a pile of tops and batting and backing ready to be done.

kits and other tops on the 2nd shelf

on the 3rd shelf is the bin with the binding strips, fiber fill in bags, also the insulbright batting, canned air and my carry all quilt bag

I also got 2 more wonky house blocks! they are all so cute! so have 6 total now

I finished sewing on the binding on the 4 seasons quilt ( my husband calls it a Vivaldi quilt now)

I quilted large feathers in the middle with a straight spine.

then straight lines on the colored parts of the log cabin blocks, bubbles on the black borders and straight angled lines on the white border

here’s some pics of the back

I'm loving your little house blocks! What are you going to do with them? I think they'd look adorable in the baby's room 🙂
