2025 quilt project list week 17

I know I’ve been very MIA, there’s still a lot of doctor’s appointments are stuff for Dan but I think after this week, it might slow down.

This week, Sonja got braces!

She has a cross bite and they think she’ll wear the braces for 18-24mths

I’m writing this post the day after and today she’s in so much pain. Poor girl!

Saturday before Easter my MOM arrived from Denmark

Her ashes! the box got a beating on the way over but the urn inside was fine.

The urn went in the closet with my in-laws ashes too, Gosh! I can’t handle it anymore, I told Dan I can’t have a 4th one in there any time soon!

It’s been rough between us, he took the one ADT hormone shot a month ago and was miserable for several days and now says he’s more tired and weaker but can’t sleep well at night, he’s at least peeing better! He’s supposed to take an ADT pill too and prednisone but his liver ALT numbers were 300 a month ago and they told him to wait and stop his supplements over that weekend and he stopped one and the number was 250 by Monday, still not low enough, but he took less of HIS stuff, then Monday before Easter, he got another blood test because he has a bunch of tests too that week, and he did the blood test at our local doctor’s office clinic and about an hour later they called that his liver number was 1100 and he was in liver failure and to go to the ER, we were at Costco shopping and he felt fine, looked fine, wasn’t in pain, so he refused and said he’s quit ALL the supplements and maybe test in a week, they compromised and said 2 days… So Wednesday he tested and it was the same! that afternoon he had a chest CT and a bone scan and the bone scan came back fine, I think the chest CT or X ray was just to see his lungs more (because they already know it’s in his lungs) Then Thursday we saw the Oncologist and the pharmacist and they both said it’s liver damage from supplements, Dan got another blood test and before we walked out the door they said it had dropped to 800, so at least it’s trending down and again he looks and feels ok! But it triggered a liver ultrasound which he got done Saturday before Easter and it came back fine, and Monday this week an appointment with the liver doctor and out of the list of supplements (Dan hasn’t told them EVERYTHING) but they said curcumen was the cause because it’s normally turmeric and normally the body doesn’t absorb turmeric but as a supplement, something is added to make the body absorb it but it’s been known to cause liver damage! and both oncologist, pharmacist and hepatologist said that supplements are not regulated by the FDA so who knows what’s really in them! Anyways, the supplements are hidden away and hopefully the numbers for his liver will keep going down.

For prostate cancer the PROTOCOL is a triple therapy: the ADT shot, ADT pills and chemo! the two ADT things attack the cancer from different directions and then there’s chemo! A few weeks ago Dan said he really wants a motorcycle now and he went and got his permit at the DMV, I’m SO against motorcycles, but he deserves some fun I guess, I had said he can get it if he does chemo! Then he told me he found a bike and Sonja asked why I let him and I told him the agreement and Dan said it was MY agreement! I give up….. The triple therapy is supposed to give him 4,6,8, maybe 10 years and they are saying probably the higher numbers because he’s rather young and fit and healthy otherwise!

Oh and it’s Solveig’s last week of class, then next week and the following week are finals then she graduates and has to do ADULTING, get a job and pay bills etc. it’s super scary for her… and Micah and her broke up a few weeks ago too! They were NOT on the same page about the future together, sigh….

I have hardly any motivation to do anything, I try to sneak upstairs to do some sewing and listen to an audiobook, but I often just play video games or do nothing, this whole thing sucks! How much can a person handle! I know God will get us thru this but it still sucks, I feel like Job!

  1. Congratulations to Solveig on her upcoming graduation, but I’m sorry to hear she and Micah broke up. You never know, as their paths may cross again if it is meant to be, but what a wonderful experience for the young. I’m sorry about Dan’s vitamin reaction. I hope and pray there isn’t any permanent damage to his liver, and it will heal itself. Hang in there. My heart tells me you will all survive. Big virtual hug, positive wishes and prayers being sent your way.
