2024 quilt project list week 25

You may have noticed that posts and emails were a bit light this week and last weekend, that’s because I was away last weekend on a last minute trip!

I took Anja with me to Kentucky for the weekend to see the Noah’s Ark!

It was amazing!!

and it was HUGE!

You enter at the bottom of the ark and then it was 3 stories tall inside

The DOOR!

Several years ago we went to the Creation museum (which we also did this time) and it struck me back then too that Noah’s ark in Genesis is NOT a happy story at all, it’s total devastation, only 8 people in the whole world survived! It wasn’t this cute little boat with 2 elephants, 2 giraffes etc.

“Answers in Genesis/ The creation museum” did mention that of course they got as much information as they could from the bible, but it didn’t mention how to take care of the animals, how to ventilate etc, so they took some creative liberties with that, but it was still neat to think about, and with that many animals and only 8 people, they each had to take care of over 850 animals.

And the RAINBOW to show the covenant between God and Man that God won’t flood the earth again!

Here’s the rest of the story of WHY we went to Kentucky!

You may know that 4 weeks ago we had planned on going to the beach for a week but had to cut it short and come home because my mother-in-law was in the hospital, and her husband can’t be left alone because he has dementia! So on the way home we decided that the grandparents should move in with us, this way we can watch them 24/7 and feed them and help them etc.

We emptied out out master bedroom and Dan and I moved into his office, his office moved into the dining room and dining table got put away because we have a big kitchen table.

We had good intentions, but even with my in-laws having two beds in one room and next to the bathroom plus a guest bathroom downstairs, it got disruptive at night AND during the day, grandma is 93 and has heart failure and is very weak, grandpa is 97 with dementia, I don’t think he ever learned 100% where the bathrooms were, he would wake up several times at night and go into the kitchen, even though we had portioned out ice cream for them to eat if they needed it, during the day they slept a lot and needed help and if she slept, he got worried about her and it was really the final straw when he kept waking her up during the day because she was tired and he told me it was a medical emergency and I asked what was different than any other day? Because he’s a doctor! (he’s a retired pathologist) then I got her an appointment for the next day for the doctor’s office and they did all sorts of tests which were ok, got home and grandma rested again and grandpa freaked out and started yelling again that she’s going to die and it’s an emergency, meanwhile she’s yelling to leave her alone because she’s tired and Dan and I got involved and we ended up having grandma going into the bedroom and rest so she could lock the door and grandpa stay on the couch, that night in the middle of the night she got him icecream and went back to bed and he woke her up to feed her ice cream and she yelled that she wanted to sleep and of course we all woke up again! It’s been like this every day!! At their house they had separate bedrooms and grandpa didn’t really bother her as much.

So Friday morning I had enough and took Anja with me and Solveig and Sonja went to Bjorn’s house for the weekend (Sonja ended up at a friend’s house later) and Anja and I drove 9hrs to KY, then did the museum and the ark on Saturday and drove back 9hrs Sunday.

Meanwhile Dan looked into assisted living which is crazy $$$! and grandma told him Sunday that they should move back to their house and hire help and now Dan is over there every day for 8hrs cooking for then 3x a day and cleaning up after them.

We’re looking for CNAs or some sort of help, I feel bad and feel like a failure, but it wasn’t working out, the girls would hide upstairs all day because they didn’t want to come downstairs to either hear yelling or not be recognized at all by grandpa and then get questioned about who they are. I’m “the lady” btw and I was pretty much stuck in the kitchen too because I had to be within sight or they’d call me as soon as I went upstairs.

We can deal with a lot of stressers and tried our best but when we don’t get proper sleep, it’s not healthy at all.

Very sad 🙁

  1. I am so glad you got away for a bit. I think about the Ark a lot too~ I grew up on a farm and know how much work it is with just a regular amount of animals. I cannot image all the work that went into caring for over 800! And the hay and other things needed for their pens. It is mind boggling. God does provide! And you should not feel bad about your in-laws, you took on a big task, with children at home and a household to keep up. You are amazing for having tried! ((hugs))
